Riding Lessons
I'm a firm believer that everyone, regardless of skill level, should be taking lessons from somebody. I ride with a trainer, and my trainer rides with other trainers. No matter how good or bad we think we are, there's something we can all learn from others.
I currently teach a variety of students ranging from adults who are total beginners at riding to Rangerettes who could ride a horse through a hurricane but want help with their horsemanship. Whether you want to compete in Cowhorse competitions or you just want to get along with your horse a little better, consider coming out for a lesson.
All lessons are conducted in our 350'x175' outdoor arena (weather permitting). When we first start the lesson I'm going to ask you what you'd like to work on. Common answers to that question are things like stopping, getting my horse to calm down, groundwork, trailer loading issues and cow work. I have a flag (mechanical cow) that we can use in the lesson if you want.
There's a principle of horsemanship that states "Work with the horse you have today". I apply this principle in my lessons too by saying "Work with the student you have today". I try never to force a student into a pre-planned lesson or to have an expectation about what progress should be made. I want to identify where you are at the beginning of the lesson and if we make progress by the end then it was a success.
I charge $40/hr and if you don't own a horse yet, that's ok, you can use one of our horses in your lesson for an extra fee.
My typical day is training horses from morning to night, so chances are, I can fit my schedule to yours. Give me shout to schedule your first lesson!

"I have been doing lessons with Grant for a few months now and it's been a great experience all around. When I first started lessons with Grant, I knew just enough to be dangerous. Grant met me where I was at. He's taken me from where I was and filled in the holes of my training. I now know not only what to do but why I am actually doing it. He has taken my horsemanship to whole other levels, both on the ground and in the saddle. It might sound cliche but with every question that I've had, he's been a wealth of knowledge on every topic relating to horses. I am working towards ranch sorting and ranch versatility competitions. Grant has taken my desire to compete and has broken down a step by step plan on how to get me and my horse ready. No matter what level you are at, I would highly recommend Grant as your trainer."

"I have been taking lessons from Grant for about a year. I have noticed improvement in my riding and overall horsemanship. Grant does and incredible job at explaining the reason behind each exercise, making it clear how it will help me and my horse. He has always been incredibly patient and encouraging through each lesson. Grant is very hands on in the riding lesson by videotaping me in order for me to reflect on what I need to correct. Grant also rides his own horse Vandi along side me to show the correct way to do certain maneuvers and as a visual learner I find this extremely helpful! I am so grateful I get the opportunity to train with Grant, and can't wait to continue learning from him!
